Meet the 2024 Tenure Recipients


Faculty Members Honored at Special Celebration

Chancellor Lambert shaking hands with Catherina Wong as Trustee Landsberger looks onSixteen faculty members were granted tenure by the Foothill-De Anza Board of Trustees on Monday, March 11, during a special celebration attended by Chancellor Lee Lambert, board members and leaders from the college and district. Deans, colleagues and family members were also there to congratulate them.

"This is truly an impressive class of tenure recipients for 2024," said Lydia Hearn, interim vice president of Instruction. Hearn and Rob Mieso, vice president of Student Services, helped introduce the newly tenured faculty members at the celebration.

The board also approved moving 10 first-year and 16 second-year faculty members to the next stage on the track toward receiving tenure.

Maurice Canyon

Maurice Canyon

Maurice Canyon, Umoja counselor, is also co-adviser for the Black Student Union and co-chair of the Black Faculty, Staff and Administrators (BFSA) Network, helping to plan the annual Black Graduation celebration and BFSA scholarships.


Sheldon Fields

Sheldon Fields

Sheldon Fields, counselor in General Counseling, first came to De Anza as an academic adviser. A team player who has a positive impact on students, he's been a counselor in several programs and has also helped out as a Transfer Center counselor.


Norma Guido Flores

Norma Guido Flores

Norma Guido Flores, counselor for the Office of Outreach and Relations With Schools and the Promise program, was a first-generation college student herself and has been active with the De Anza Latinx Association (DALA) and initiatives to support undocumented students on campus.


John Jimenez

John Jimenez

John Jimenez, Mathematics instructor, is a student-focused teacher who contributes to the Math Performance Success program, advises the Math Club and has also been active with the Latinx graduation and UndocuWelcome committees. 


Elsa Jimenez-Samayoa

Elsa Jimenez- Samayoa

Elsa Jimenez- Samayoa, Biology instructor, is known as a helpful colleague and a caring and considerate teacher who has participated in Summer Bridge, the De Anza Latinx Association (DALA) and the Academic Senate as a representative for her division.


Joshua Losben

Joshua Losben

Josh Losben, Film and Television instructor, is a talented writer and musician in his own right; he’s a collegial team player in his department and has helped several of his students prepare for transfer to USC’s renowned film program.


Rana Marinas

Rana Marinas

Rana Marinas, Nursing instructor, is a De Anza Nursing grad herself. She brings a thoughtful and empathetic approach to teaching, and has served as assistant director and interim director of the Nursing program.


Bianca Melendez

Bianca Melendez

Bianca Melendez, Disability Support Programs and Services counselor, supports equitable learning experiences for her students and has conducted extensive outreach to area high schools and community agencies.


Christian Rodriguez

Christian Rodriguez

Christian Rodriguez, counselor for English Performance Success, is especially thoughtful and skilled at supporting students who are new or unfamiliar with college. He’s also an active member of the De Anza Latinx Association (DALA) and the Latinx Graduation planning committee.


Xavier Silva

Xavier Silva

Xavier Silva, Automotive Technology instructor, is a former De Anza student himself who served as a peer tutor for fellow students. A natural leader and teacher, he continues to be a mentor for his students.


James Tallent

James Tallent

James Tallent, Automotive Technology instructor, is also a former De Anza student. He has introduced new technology and equipment in his teaching and also serves as adviser to the student Auto Tech Club and its annual car show and canned food drive


Susan Thomas

Susan Thomas

Susan Thomas, Psychology instructor, began her second career in teaching after working as a staff development trainer. She’s active with Guided Pathways, the Humanities Mellon Scholars program and the Social Sciences and Humanities Equity Core Team.


Trisha Tran

Trisha Tran

Trisha Tran, counselor for Career Technical Education, is a team player who’s active with Guided Pathways and goes out of her way to serve students – often working at night to meet with students in evening programs.


Glynn Wallis

Glynn Wallis

Glynn Wallis, counselor for Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), is committed to supporting students from underserved populations. He is co-chair of the Black Faculty, Staff and Administrators (BFSA) Network.


Amy Wang

Amy Wang

Amy Wang, counselor for IMPACT AAPI, has worked to increase awareness of Asian American and Pacific Islander students and their issues, while coordinating a scholarship program and supporting students in her Learning Community.


Catherina Wong

Catherina Wong

Catherina Wong, Accounting instructor, works diligently to teach and support students in her classes and the Business and Finance Village. An strong writer and communicator, she also contributes to her division and shared governance activities.
