What is DASG?

DASG stands for De Anza Student Government. DASG is composed of students who have one thing in common: to advocate students' needs and represent students on campus.

DASG serves as the official liaison between students and the college administration, and works to improve the quality of life for students on campus. DASG is responsible for planning and organizing student activities and events, allocating funds to student clubs and organizations, and addressing student issues and concerns. 

With a budget in excess of $1,000,000, the DASG Senate sponsors and funds hundreds of programs and events in the interests of the student body. We host and plan events, engage with students, distribute funds across student programs, contribute as voting members of several shared governances.

DASG functions under the Office of College Life and Student Development Division, alongside our sister programs Inter Club Council and Mentors @ De Anza.

  

What Does DASG Do?

With a budget of more than $1 million, DASG funds 40+ student programs on campus. 

Representing Student Voices

DASG ensures that all students have a voice in the student body and shared governance at De Anza. 

Advocating and Affecting Policy

We advocate on a college, district, and statewide level on all policies concerning students. 

Ensuring Equity and Sustainability

DASG has a common goal of promoting equity and sustainability.

Sponsoring Student-Led Events

DASG Senate sponsors and funds hundreds of activities and events.

Supporting Student Rights and Services

DASG represents students in speakng out for rights and needed services.

Power in Open Communication

  • The DASG President is able to directly make recommendations to the College President at college level
  • The Student Trustee is able to directly make recommendations to the FHDA board of trustees at district level
  • Senate at-large are able to pass resolutions to be addressed to various shared governance campus groups (President’s Office, Chancellor’s Office, Academic Senate, Classified Senate, etc.)

    

About the DASG, A Little History

When De Anza Associated Student Body was founded in 1967, it had its work cut out for it. In 1967, the student center was not yet built, so the DASB Senate had to meet in the gym until the the center was finished during the second semester.

DASB was initially seeded with funds from the Associated Students of Foothill College. These funds allowed the DASB to establish its first budget. The DASB's first tasks in 1967 were to create a constitution for the organization, and to create clubs for De Anza. According to the first DASB president, Marshal Mitzman, one of the biggest issues the school faces that year was to try to get signs that said "De Anza College Next Exit" placed on major highways. Students went to Sacramento to lobby the state to place these signs. In that first year the DASB took a trip to San Francisco to the Buyer Mart to select all of the furniture for the campus center.

Other Senate projects in the past include:

  • Funding the original Lifetime Wellness Center equipment
  • Provide seed funding for a the Kirsch Center for Environmental Studies
  • Provide seed funding for a the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC)
  • Organize a Thanksgiving lunch for students
