Honors and Achievements
De Anza Honored for English and Math Success Rates
De Anza College has received two Excellence in Placement awards from the nonprofit Campaign for College Opportunity, which announced the awards for campuswide success in English and Math during a livestreamed event last week. The awards recognize colleges that have the highest percentages of students who successfully complete transfer-level English and Math courses within one year of enrollment in the course, compared with the rates for other community colleges statewide.
De Anza was one of 20 colleges receiving awards from the group, which advocates for equitable access to higher education, and for removing barriers to student transfers from community colleges to universities. The group has honored De Anza in previous years for the college’s student success and transfer rates and for its implementation of equitable placement practices under the 2017 state law known as AB 705.
According to the group’s research, De Anza had an 81.2% rate of success in transfer-level English during the 2022-23 academic year – the second highest in the state after Skyline College in San Bruno, which had a rate of 81.7%. De Anza had an 81.4% rate of success in transfer-level Math, ranking second in the state after Foothill College’s rate of 82.3%.
