Introducing This Year's Grad Speaker

We’re excited to announce that Andrea Aviles Guzman will be this year’s Commencement Speaker for the collegewide graduation celebration on Saturday, June 29. You can read all about Andrea here – and keep reading below for some important grad reminders.

Student Speaker

Andrea Aviles GuzmanThere was a time when Andrea Aviles Guzman thought college wasn’t for her. Now she’s transferring to the University of California, Santa Cruz, after winning the prestigious Karl S. Pister scholarship to help pay her way.

Andrea, 25, is graduating with an associate degree for transfer in Sociology. She wants to be a social worker or work in a field where she can help children and families.

“There’s so much work that needs to be done. I can’t fix everything, but I can help,” she said.
