Almost half of De Anza’s students identify as Asian, Filipinx or Pacific Islander, while a quarter identify as Latinx. The largest number (44%) are continuing from a previous quarter, while about 18% are attending college for the first time.
While over a third of students are 19 or younger, an even split between male and female students exists, with most students earning a high school diploma or equivalent as their highest level of education.

Student Areas of Residence
Just over a quarter of De Anza students live in the college’s official service area, which is defined as the areas served by high schools in the Fremont Union High School District – covering Cupertino, Sunnyvale and parts of Saratoga, San José and Santa Clara. The other 74% live across the Santa Clara Valley, including 23% in Central Santa Clara County (areas of San José west of highways 880 and 101) and 15% from East Santa Clara County (Alviso, Milpitas and areas of San José east of highways 880 and 101).

Students from most local cities choose online or in-person classes roughly in proportion to their share of the total student body. For example, students from San José represent 47% of De Anza’s total enrollment – the largest share of any city – and also represent 49% of in-person enrollment and 48% of online enrollment. Unsurprisingly, students from Cupertino, where De Anza is located, take in-person courses at a slightly higher rate than their proportion of the student body. About 2% of students taking an online course live in Los Angeles.
Four of the five high schools in De Anza’s immediate service area have graduation rates above 94%. The fifth, Fremont High, has a rate of 87%. More than a quarter of Fremont High’s 2024 graduates enrolled at De Anza that fall. Nearly a quarter of graduates from Cupertino High and 20% of graduates from Homestead High enrolled at De Anza.
