It is with great pride that I present to you De Anza College's inaugural Fact Book – a comprehensive resource that reflects our institution's rich heritage and unwavering commitment to data-driven excellence.
Since opening our doors in 1967, De Anza College has been a beacon of educational
opportunity in the heart of Silicon Valley. Born from the vision of serving our rapidly
growing and diversifying community, our college was named after the Spanish explorer
Juan Bautista de Anza, symbolizing our role as pathfinders in higher education. From
our early days as one of California's newest community colleges, we have grown to
become one of the state's largest and most innovative institutions, serving nearly
18,000 students each quarter.
Throughout our history, De Anza has been distinguished by our pioneering spirit – from being among the first colleges to embrace technology integration in the classroom to developing innovative programs that respond directly to regional workforce needs. Our campus has evolved into a vibrant learning community that reflects the remarkable heterogeneity of our surrounding area, consistently ranking among the most ethnically diverse colleges in the nation.

Central to De Anza's success has been our sustained commitment to evidence-based planning and continuous improvement. For decades, we have recognized that meaningful progress requires more than good intentions – it demands careful analysis of where we are, thoughtful consideration of where we want to go, and strategic planning to bridge that gap.

The Fact Book will be a cornerstone of our comprehensive planning efforts as we look toward the future. By consolidating annual data trends and key institutional metrics in one accessible format, this resource will enhance our ongoing culture of inquiry and evidence-based improvement. Working in conjunction with our data visualization dashboards and other analytical tools, the Fact Book provides collegewide access to critical information about our institution's performance and impact.
This resource is designed to stimulate meaningful dialogue around planning and strategic goal setting among our students, faculty, classified professionals, administrators and governance bodies. Through regular communication of assessment and evaluation results, we enhance our collective understanding of institutional strengths and opportunities, enabling us to establish priorities that truly serve our students and community.
