Advisor announcements:
- Maritza
- Cleanup in lounge, appreciate if senators and interns will be there, pizza is provided. People come into lounge all the time to ask questions, and the lounge is how the student government presents itself. The current state of the lounge is :(
- Next week is last week of meetings, almost done with quarter and almost time to focus on finals, any business that requires two meetings will need to be in winter
- Maritza has become new faculty director (Hyon-Chu’s old position), no changes made to SRE
- Rami joins meeting, joined because SRE is awesome, favourite fruit is banana
Public comments:
Ben - Flea market intern, spoken to couple of SRE senators and Flea market senators to propose an idea
- During flea market, some vendors do not have sufficient support (spanish, mandarin speakers), want to gather ideas on how to support them with selling their products, have interns come by to inquire how they’re doing,
- One idea by SRE: volunteers who speak those languages to support these vendors
- Trying to get an idea on how to approach it, see if an actual project can happen.
Committee announcements:
- Last meeting next week
- Will talk about advocacy liaison intern project today
- Follow up on previous concerns:
- Talked with Luca (president) about poster removal, unsure how to approach issue as
more relevant to vandalism issue, potentially making official announcement or action
steps to promote awareness of issue
- Maritza: in the works, figuring out what parties need to be involved (Office of Comm,
Facilities)
- Was told the only official places where posters should be are glass boards and bulletin boards, bulletin boards are supposed to be for class announcements, does not feel like glass boards are sufficient for club visibility and currently working with middle-ground
- Historically, only DASG elections allowed for public posting
- Working on new official posting spaces for student events and announcements
- Kavi: Limited space for posting goes against dynamics of college clubs, having limited space would reduce student activity
- Kavi: Political posters were targetted, only argument is must support the existence of those clubs
- Nishita: Especially in terms of education, must be taken seriously
- Maritza: in the works, figuring out what parties need to be involved (Office of Comm,
Facilities)
- Discord regulation: talked with Luca, Discord is not technically an allowed platform
- Kavi: Codes state student representatives should properly represent themselves on all platforms, and must adhere to ICC and DASG bylaws on all platforms, is legal issue.
- Katia: Website is only approved platform according to Brown Act in terms of legality; in terms of accountability, bylaws would apply even for Discord.
- Maritza: De Anza Discord is not an officially managed platform (student-run), students are held accountable academically or behaviorally. May need to educate moderators on permitting things that are approved.
- Kavi: Must have some way to hold people accountable
Aura public comment:
- Public discounts project, ask for discounts at local gyms and business, turns out project initially under SRE
- Nishita: Sent proposals in emails to businesses, went in person to inquire with businesses but unsure if they have received correspondence, will talk to CJ and Mark to see if it’s under SRE
- Most businesses were very willing regarding providing student discounts
- Thanks aura
