California History Center (CHC) and National Endowment for the Humanities Workshop: Truth-telling commissions ask a community to look at what it chose not to remember. DavidHoward-Pitney, Ph.D., will talk about the truth-telling task force for the Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real and what this kind of public accounting can mean in the classroom and in the community. The session continues the CHC’s Reframing History series, which treats history as an ongoing interpretation of evidence rather than a fixed set of facts. We’ll discuss what an institution’s records leave out, how to teach difficult local history honestly and what a truth-telling assignment might look like in your own discipline.
