Dr. David Wain Coon, Acting President
David Wain Coon, Ed.D., was appointed acting president of De Anza College at a special meeting of the Board of Trustees on Friday, April 17, 2026. He will serve in the role until a permanent president is appointed.

Dr. Coon brings more than 19 years of experience as a community college CEO, including a 13-year tenure as superintendent/president
of College of Marin from 2010 to 2024. During that time, he led significant institutional transformation by improving labor relations, overseeing more than $515 million in facilities modernization,
strengthening partnerships with K–12 schools and community organizations, and advancing
equity-focused initiatives to support student success.
He has also served as president of Evergreen Valley College and held senior leadership roles in Washington state. His work has been recognized
with the Dr. John W. Rice Diversity and Equity Award at both institutions he led.
In recognition of his impact, the College of Marin community recently dedicated the
Dr. David Wain Coon Center for Student Success, which opened in February 2026.
Following his retirement in January 2024, Dr. Coon returned to service as acting and
later interim president at San Jose City College from October 2024 to September 2025.
