New Video Highlights Health Tech
The Health Technologies program is highlighted in a new video that’s part of a series on career technical education at De Anza, developed to show why the college is “Tops in Career Training.”
"If I never did medical assisting, I would have never found my passion for drawing blood," said Natasha Segura, a recent Health Technologies student, in the video. She adds that the various degrees and certificates offered by the department offer students “multiple options” to prepare for working in the field.
The video is the fourth installment in the series, developed by the Office of Communications in collaboration with the Career Technical Education Division and departments that offer CTE programs.
The program prepares students for their future after De Anza. Maureen Miramontes, Health Technologies program director and instructor, explains that students in the program serve “externships” of 144 to 160 hours in labs, clinics or doctor’s offices, after completing their courses, so they have a chance to practice the skills they learned in the classroom.
“I think a lot of clinics know” about De Anza, adds Marina Petrova, a lab technician in the program.
“We always get a lot of positive comments … that we have very well-prepared students.”
Future installments in the series are planned to highlight individual career training programs and groups of related offerings – including arts and communication, automotive technology, child development, environmental studies, nursing, information technology, and law and public safety.
