SSPBT Meeting Notes - October 20, 2016

Attending Members: Argyriou, Cook (co-chair), Glapion (co-chair), Kirkpatrick, LeBleu-Burns, Mandy, Mieso, Robles, Shears, White-Daniels

There were no amendments to the agenda.

Accreditation Update

Newell went over the Survey Presentation with the committee and explained that some of the data in the surveys could be used as evidence for our accreditation work. The Student and Employee Surveys can be found on the Accreditation 2017 webpage.

Newell also reviewed the timeline:

  • Draft of the Self Study is due on Dec. 31, 2016.
  • The quality focus essay will be written during the winter quarter
  • Self Study will by completed by the spring quarter

Cook volunteered to write the Self Study Report draft and then it would be taken to the Student Services Division meetings for review and feedback. The committee agreed and Cook said she would distribute a timeline.

Membership/Orientation

Cook had the committee review the De Anza Governance Handbook pages for SSPBT. Cook asked everyone to review the content on pages 47-48 so the suggestions can be discussed at the next meeting.

Program & Committee Updates

 Robles reported on EOPS

  • EOPS will be accepting applications for winter quarter on Oct. 28th
  • On Monday they will be starting their registration check for current students
  • Working on filling open positions

 Mieso reported on the Men of Color program and Outreach

  • Men of Color hosted a Hip Hop Summit on Tuesday 18th
    • Getting the word out about the program
  • On Friday Oct. 28th, Outreach will be hosting the High School Summit
  • Already doing events at high schools
  • Working on comprehensive Ed Plans
  • SSSP Plan data

Cook reported on the Student Services Office

  • Using new program management software – Smartsheet
    • Assist with annual report and division projects
    • Two training sessions have been scheduled for all users
  • Title IX cases

Kirkpatrick reported on the Library

  • The library has been very busy this quarter; over 5000 a day according to the gate count
  • Everyone is enjoying and respecting the new space

Mandy reported on the Financial Aid Office

  • The 2017-18 FASFAs are opening early this year, Oct. 1st.
  • The Financial Aid office was redone over the summer
    • Much more welcoming environment

Shears reported on the DSPS Office

  • The De Anza DSPS office hosted CAPED this year
    • The most well attended conference in over 20 years
    • They are short on hourly interpreters and are working on how to fix this

Glapion reported on the DSS Office

  • There has been a high demand for Counseling DSPS Services

LeBleu-Burns reported on Student Development

  • The Psychological Services, Health Services, and student discipline office have been very busy. Trying to make sure the students’ needs are taken care of.
