About Me

"Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign, but stories can also be used to empower and to humanize." - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Biography

I have been teaching at the college level since 2006, and with youth and adults in arts education since 2001. I am passionate about supporting people in finding their voices and developing effective ways of communicating, whether it be through writing and speaking, from the creative to the analytical and argumentative. I have a background as a published author and performing artist as well as a social justice advocate; my parents immigrated from the Philippines; I've lived in many parts of the country and abroad; and I've taught at a variety of institutions, gaining many approaches and working with many populations (ages, economic levels, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds). I draw from these life experiences to support my teaching. I am passionate about the powerful experiences that can occur with learning, and learning from you, my students! I look forward to meeting you.
