Approval of Minutes
February 4, 2026
- Francesca motioned to approve, Min seconded, no objection, motion passed.
Public Comments
- Ann Penalosa: In the future, please clarify in the recording minutes the last name initial since there are two Jacobs in this senate.
- Hansen: my name is Henson Wong, and I'm here on behalf of the Student Senate for California
Community Colleges (SSCCC). Each year, community college students from across the
state come together in Sacramento for March in March Advocacy Day to advocate directly
to legislators about the issues impacting community college students. This includes
funding, financial aid access, and resources that support student success. We're inviting
students from your campus, to join us in Sacramento on March 12th as we march to the
steps of the State Capitol, to bring awareness to the needs of community college students
in the state. This march is open to all students, faculty, staff, and supporters.
I'll share the RSVP link and the QR code in the chat. If you want to learn more, DM
us on Instagram at @SSCCC_official to get the RSVP link or ask any questions.
- March in March
- Date: March 12, 2026
- Time & Start Location: TBD
- End Location: Capitol Steps, Sacramento, 3:30 p.m.
- Join students, SSCCC leaders, and union representatives as we march to the Capitol and participate in speeches and events highlighting our collective commitment to change.
- RSVP HERE
- Salvadore: There's a group of us from VIDA going to March in March together. If there are any senators interested in going with us, please reach out to me and I can connect you with the trip group.
- Francesca: If you are an elections candidate, please remember to check your emails since we send out important information from the DASG Elections account. Elections have dropped all candidates with no-shows to the election info session, in accordance with our bylaws.
Budgeter Comments
- Jason Bram for Marine Biology:
- I teach marine biology at De Anza College, and each quarter I take my students on a camping trip to a UC reserve. Your funding covers the food, equipment, and camping fees, which allows every student to participate without worrying about cost. I’m deeply grateful for this support because I could not run these trips on my own.
- Gavin Rust and Jason Huang for La Voz:
- La Voz needs to focus less on sustaining advertisement and more on reporting on local news. The skills we teach to students are directly used in the journalism industry. As one of the most awarded colleges in country for journalism, we should be able to support our students more, not less.
- Charles Van Meurs for Men of Color:
- We are requesting $6,400 for a myriad of purposes to further support the Men of Color community including but not limited to university tours, trips to different companies such as Google and Linkedin, and our graduation ceremony.
- Adriana Garcia for Office of Equity:
- With DASG funding, I’m able to help build a strong and inclusive community on our campus. My office hosts monthly Heritage Month events—sometimes two at once—highlighting groups such as Latinx, Filipino American, and LGBTQ+ communities. These events promote representation, cultural learning, intersectionality, wellness, empathy, and student leadership, all of which strengthen our campus climate.
- Ethan Nguyen and Kyi Sin Win Khant for InterClub Council (ICC):
- ICC has 80+ clubs, club days, and many mini events all year round Clubs provide not only learning opportunities and leadership experience but also make lifelong memories However with the increasing amount of clubs and meetings we’re doing, there are two major challenges. Our Advisor and administrative officers are being overworked by club affairs such as agenda and minute submissions of club meeting, monitoring club statuses and managing club events. The 12k approved was helpful but with the number of hours our assistant needs to work, it’s not sufficient. Another challenge is the food budget. Our events have big food expenses in order to gain engagement and attendance. in order to continue planning impactful events we need more funds for food.
- Casey Wheat for Veterans:
- At the Veterans Resource Center, I support active military members, veterans, and their dependents. My students asked me to advocate for a Veterans Career Fair focused on hiring veterans, so this funding would cover food and event supplies. I’m also requesting continued funding for book vouchers, which are crucial for new veterans who often experience gaps in their educational benefits. I want to thank you for always supporting our veteran students.
- Casey wheat for basic needs:
- For the Basic Needs Center, I plan to expand our quarterly events next year, including a Fall Resource Fair, a Winter CalFresh event, and a Spring Student Employment Job Fair. Funding would mainly support food for participants. These events help students learn about campus resources, financial aid, employment, and general basic needs support, and they encourage them to visit our center more often.
- Sabrina Moore and Gillian Grubb for FA PAC:
- We want to thank you for approving our budget. At FA PAC, we advocate for students, staff, and faculty, and we’ve worked on initiatives like the Prop 50 campaign, Measure A, and the Measure G housing plan. This year, we had to cut A&P budget in order to hire more staff, but we hope to restore those plans next year. We truly appreciate your support.

Senate Announcements
- Dali: We have set up a vigil right outside of the cafeteria honoring the 9 people that have been killed by ICE. Over 40 volunteers come out and make posters, community circle, and collaborate across offices. This is a collaboration between FA PAC, Public Policy School, and VIDA. It's nice, there's flowers, candles, handmade posters. I would really encourage you guys to check it out.
- Min: ICC is collaborating with DASG Student Rights and Equity to have a cultural day. It is planned to be on March 2nd, from 12 to 2.30pm in the main quad.
- James: Elora has resigned as student trustee.
- Min: Who is going to represent De Anza College at the board?
- Hyon Chu: We can either appoint someone to go for the March board meeting, or we can have the new student trustee that’s to be sworn in start their term early.
Student Trustee Announcements
