Transfer for STEM

As a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) major you will be required to complete calculus and, for most STEM majors, advanced math courses beyond calculus or even statistics for certain major. Check assist.org to verify your major and IGETC requirements for transfer. If you have any advanced placement (AP) scores of 3 or higher in Statistics or Calculus you may be placed at a higher level--to verify, visit the PSME Division.

Math 114 Intermediate Algebra – not required and does not transfer, but is an option for those that want a full course versus a short review, or if you are not transferring and are seeking only an Associate's degree or certificate.

Math 231 and 31 Algebra Support for Precalculus I and Precalculus I - required (unless you placed higher) for those testing into Math 231/31, these courses are a good option for students that struggled or have not completed any algebra classes in the last two or more years.

Math 31 Precalculus I – required or placed higher

Math 32 Precalculus II – required or placed higher

Math 1A Calculus I – required or passed AP Calculus (AB) Exam with a score of 3 or better

Math 1B Calculus II – required or passed AP Calculus (BC) Exam with a score of 3 or better

Some institutions will require the courses below based on your major, check with the institution or if a public California institution, use assist.org to verify major and IGETC requirements for transfer.

Math 1C Calculus III – may be required

Math 1D Calculus IV – may be required

Math 2A Differential Equations – may be required

Math 2B Linear Algebra – may be required

Math 22 Discrete – may be required

Math 10 Statistics – may be required or passed AP Statistics Exam with a score of 3 or better.
