LRNA 397
Introduction to Peer Tutoring in Writing and Reading
Course Description
This course serves as the required training for all writing and reading tutors at De Anza. It introduces the core theories and practical methods that underpin effective tutoring, with a focus on supporting students from a wide range of linguistic backgrounds and varying levels of college reading and writing proficiency. Throughout the course, students engage with readings, observe experienced tutors, participate in discussions, write analytically, and practice specific tutoring strategies to build their skills. After completing an initial orientation, each student begins tutoring and regularly reflects on their experiences, using those reflections to deepen their understanding of the craft.
