Updated Campus Protocols and Federal Enforcement

Jan. 29, 2026

Dear De Anza Community,

I want to follow up on Chancellor Lambert's message from yesterday regarding campus safety protocols and preparation for potential immigration enforcement activity.

First, I want to acknowledge that this is a difficult and uncertain time for many in our community. I recognize that some of you may be carrying concerns about your own safety or that of family members, friends and colleagues. Please know that De Anza College remains committed to fostering a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for all students, faculty and staff.

As always, confidential counseling and other resources are available through our Mental Health and Wellness Center, including the Employee Assistance Program, and we encourage you to take advantage of these services whenever you need them.

I also want to clarify that currently there is no confirmed ICE activity on our campuses. While we have seen reports of immigration enforcement activity at other California community colleges, it is important to note that there have been no reports of disruption of instruction or entry into classrooms and offices. Should any developments occur, we will send timely notices through our emergency notification system. Please ensure your contact information is current by following the instructions in the Chancellor's message below.

New Resources and Signage

This week, we are posting updated ICE response protocol posters and signage identifying nonpublic spaces outside classrooms and labs across campus. These materials provide clear guidance on campus protocols, as well as a link to resources and information about your rights. Please remove the previous signage and replace with this new guidance.

We encourage individuals to print color copies of the nonpublic space signage for their own offices or workspaces. Nonpublic areas are defined as spaces dedicated solely to the operations, business and educational functions of the institution, rather than areas intended for general public access.

Updated posters and wallet cards are available on our website at deanza.edu/students/undocumented.

Upcoming Training

The district is working to arrange training sessions for faculty and staff in the coming weeks. We will share details as soon as they are finalized.

Your safety and well-being remain our highest priority. If you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Campus Safety team or to me directly.

In partnership,
Omar
