From the President
Our Ongoing Commitment to All Students
Jan. 7, 2026
Dear De Anza Community,
You may have seen social media activity today regarding our college's commitment to
welcoming undocumented students. I want to take a moment to reaffirm what we stand
for and remind you of the protections we have in place.
De Anza College is and will remain a welcoming place for all students, including our
undocumented students. This is not just a statement—it is a commitment rooted in our
mission to provide educational opportunity and our values as a community. Our undocumented
students are valued members of our campus community, and we will continue to support
them as they pursue their educational goals.
Our Protocols and Protections
We have clear protocols in place to protect all members of our campus community:
-
Campus access: Federal immigration enforcement agents will not be granted access to non-public areas of campus without a judicial warrant. Our Campus Police team is trained to request and verify any warrant before granting access.
- Immediate campus-wide notification: In accordance with California Senate Bill 98, if immigration enforcement is confirmed on campus, we will immediately notify all students, faculty, staff, and campus community members. The notification will include the date, time, and location of the confirmed presence, along with links to resources and Know Your Rights information.
- Student rights: We will ensure students are informed of their rights and have access to legal resources. Students can contact our HEFAS program for confidential support and referrals.
- No voluntary cooperation: De Anza College does not voluntarily share student information with immigration enforcement agencies, and we comply only with valid legal processes.
- Sanctuary and support: We will continue to provide safe spaces and support services for all students, regardless of immigration status.
Thank you for the work you do every day to create an environment where all students
can thrive. Your commitment to supporting every member of our community is what makes
De Anza the inclusive, compassionate place it is.
In partnership,
Omar
