Emergency Support for Students Affected by SNAP/CalFresh Suspension

Oct. 30, 2025

Dear Students,

In light of the ongoing federal government shutdown, it is anticipated that SNAP/CalFresh benefits may be unavailable starting November 1, 2025. We recognize that this news may cause worry and uncertainty for many of our students who rely on these benefits to help feed themselves and their families.

At both De Anza College and Foothill College, we are committed to supporting your basic needs and well-being during this difficult time. To help offset the loss of SNAP/CalFresh benefits, we have created a process for students to request emergency funds through MyPortal.

To apply for emergency SNAP/CalFresh assistance:

    1. Log in to MyPortal using your student ID number and password.
    2. Select the SNAP/CalFresh Emergency Grant Request tile (see screenshot below).
    3. Complete the web form in full, ensuring all required fields are filled out.
    4. Upload your most recent SNAP/CalFresh benefit statement to the form as verification.
    5. Click Submit to complete your application.

We understand how challenging this situation may be, and we want you to know that you are not alone. Our teams are here to support you with care, compassion and respect.

If you have questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you are taking classes at both De Anza and Foothill, contact the director where your financial aid is distributed:

Lisa Mandy, Director of Financial Aid, De Anza College at mandylisa@fhda.edu.

Patricia Mendoza, Director of Financial Aid, Foothill College at mendozapatricia@fhda.edu.

Sincerely,

Omar Torres
