About Dr. Bob Johansen

Distinguished Fellow, Institute for the Future

Dr. Bob Johansen is a distinguished fellow with the Institute for the Future in Silicon Valley. For more than 50 years, he has helped organizations around the world prepare for and shape the future, including corporations such as P&G, Walmart, United Rentals, and GlaxoSmithKline, as well as a range of major universities and nonprofits. Dr. Johansen is the author or co-author of 15 books, including Get There Early, The New Leadership Literacies, and Full-Spectrum Thinking, Office Shock, and The Reciprocity Advantage. In 2025, he co-authored the 3rd edition of Leaders Make the Future: 10 New Skills to Humanize Leadership with Generative AI (with Jeremy Kirshbaum and Gabe Cervantes) and Navigating the Age of Chaos (with Jamais Cascio and Angela F. Williams). Dr. Johansen’s books are used widely in corporations, universities, nonprofits, and at the Army War College. In 2016, he was named the H. Smith Richardson Jr. Visiting Fellow at the Center for Creative Leadership. 

Dr. Johansen holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois, which he attended on a basketball scholarship, and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University—as well as a master’s degree focused on world religions.


About Dr. Lyn Jeffery

Distinguished Fellow and Foresight Essentials Director, Institute for the Future

Dr. Lyn Jeffery leads Institute for the Future’s Foresight Essentials program, supporting people, organizations, and communities to develop their own foresight capacities. A cultural anthropologist and an Institute for the Future Distinguished Fellow, she explores how people make sense of the rapidly changing world around them, whether a “left-behind” child in a Sichuan village, a leader in a multinational organization developing their own futures thinking skills, or an amateur musician experimenting with new VR instruments. Before joining Institute for the Future, Dr. Jeffery worked in China as a tour guide, nonprofit researcher, Fulbright scholar and television producer. She has enduring interests in learning experience design, mobility, social media, collaborative technologies. 

Dr. Jeffery holds a BA in Chinese Studies and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
