From the Interim President

Coronavirus Planning and College Website Resource

March 6, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

In light of coronavirus concerns, I am writing you today especially to make sure you're aware of an important college website resource, linked from our homepage:

deanza.edu/healthservices/coronavirus

As noted on the website, the Santa Clara County Public Health Department is taking proactive steps to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The college and district are following all of the county health department's recommendations, which are based on those of the Centers for Disease Control. It's important to know that most cases are mild and patients recover well; as always, older adults and those with underlying health issues are most at risk.

The county health department is not recommending the closure of schools except under specific circumstances. I know you'll agree, however, that it's critical that we plan for a variety of scenarios, which leaders across the college and district are actively working on. In a message to students earlier today -- the third in a series we have sent on the topic of the coronavirus -- we reassured students that we are planning for the continuity of their education. The emails are available on the website, and you can read the latest here: www.deanza.edu/healthservices/coronavirus-03.06.20.html.

I know that our faculty members are planning now for various possibilities that could interfere with student learning, such as a disruption in operations or the closing of the college -- which, again, is not happening now. Please consult with your dean or director if you have specific questions.

We will provide further email updates as necessary, and are continuously updating the website. Thank you for your care for our students during this particular time, and always.

Kindly,
Christina
