    The Time-Block Scheduling Task Force met to review the latest block schedule options and discuss feedback received from campus divisions and constituencies. Overall feedback from divisions reviewed to date was generally positive, with no new major concerns raised for Version 3. Members noted that additional comments may still arrive through follow-up emails.

    The task force also discussed the concept of a possible shared “college hour” or common break in the daily schedule. Participants noted that such a period could support campus activities such as clubs, tutoring, office hours, and student engagement events, and that similar models have helped strengthen campus community at other institutions. At the same time, members acknowledged that a fixed college hour could create scheduling challenges for some courses and faculty schedules. The group discussed whether a full hour is necessary or whether a shorter shared break may achieve similar benefits.

    Student scheduling considerations were also reviewed. Some block structures could create gaps between classes for students, and members emphasized that schedule design should support students’ ability to complete program requirements efficiently. The group also noted that scheduling patterns may affect students’ financial aid status and enrollment decisions.

    Additional discussion focused on scheduling considerations for lab-based programs. Some science pathways require students to enroll in multiple lab courses during the same term. Members noted that lecture scheduling patterns may affect the availability of time blocks needed for those labs and emphasized the importance of ensuring that scheduling models allow students to follow established program maps and sequencing requirements without creating unintended barriers.
    Operational considerations were also noted. Some athletic programs and internal operational schedules may require adjustments if new block structures are implemented, and these issues would require additional coordination across the college.

    Members also discussed continued flexibility for Friday, Saturday, and potentially Sunday classes, which may support working students and programs requiring extended instructional time.

    The task force will now prepare its final recommendations and supporting report. These recommendations will be shared with campus governance groups for review. Governance bodies will review the recommendations and determine whether to adopt the proposal, request revisions, or pursue an alternative approach. If approved through governance, implementation would occur no earlier than the 2027–28 academic year.
