3SP (Student Success & Support Program) Proposal:
The senior staff presented the SSSP draft proposal to the IPBT committee. The purpose of this document is to serve, engage, focus, and increase confidence in students to help them overcome barriers and succeed academically.
The matrix report showed a few areas of conflict related to the role of the Counseling department; orientation; development/approval of educational plans. Over the summer co-chairs Cook and Tomaneng will reframe the matrix into a draft narrative for submittal to the State on October 17, 2014. The document will be presented to all PBT’s, College Council, Counseling division, Academic & Classified Senate to collect feedback for the final submission.
A discussion followed regarding: revenue; reporting and reimbursement; state matching ratios; 50/50 rule; role of faculty/advisors; demographics; increases in FT enrollment; tracking success rates of Counseling 200; updating and flexibility of the plan document.
The IPBT is already working on fulfilling the instructional side of the SSSP mandates by approving faculty hires for specific basic skills classes. Espinosa-Pieb asked the committee to familiarize themselves with the document and think about instructional components to discuss in the Fall.
Espinosa-Pieb concluded that IPBT process is very transparent. She announced that over the summer she and Bryant will work and talk about instructional components and will bring a summary for discussion in fall.
