Meeting Notes - May 13, 2009
1) Approval of Notes April 8, 2009 & May 7, 2009
The notes were approved.
2) Unfunded Positions in 2009-10
Jeanpierre admitted that in this current budget climate there are no good choices, only difficult decisions and sobering realities. The Board has required that the structural deficit be closed for FY 09-10. There are 40 unfunded positions at De Anza, 12 of which are filled. Some of the positions are being switched to other funding sources and there are some resignations pending. It is hoped that it may be possible to move some of the people in the unfunded positions to other positions that become vacant due to attrition. The District is presenting budget reduction proposals to the bargaining units. When funding become available again, the PBTs will make recommendations for restaffing their areas.
Tomorrow, the Governor will release two May revise budget scenarios; one if the ballots do not pass & one if they do pass. In either scenario, the impact will be devastating as the state income projections continue to deteriorate.
Members are encouraged to attend the College Council meeting at 1:00 p.m. on May 16, 2009 where each PBT will present their budget reduction recommendations.
3) Burning Issues
None were reported.
Present: Harada, Jeanpierre, Jenkins, Jones-Dulin, Montgomery, Spatafore. Notes: Gibson.
