Meeting Notes - Nov. 20, 2014
Attending: Burgos, Caballero de Cordero, Claros, Glapion (co-chair), Kirkpatrick, Mandy, Mieso
Guest: Veronica Avila
Amendment made to previous meeting notes.
1. Orientation – Update not available
2. Assessment – Mieso
The proposal has been submitted to DARE and preliminary retest dates will be starting Dec. 9th. A survey will be given to the students who are retaking the test. The retesting study will be conducted in both the winter and spring quarters.
Discussions will continue on the second study in the winter quarter about assessing high school transcripts and GPA.
Suggestions - Check with Foothill because some students take the placement tests again there after taking the placement test here at De Anza. Also, maybe we can prepare the students better before their first placement test(s) so they do not have to retest again.
3. Counseling, Advising, and Education Planning Services – Update not available
There have been counseling discussions taking place to on how to best implement the Comprehensive Ed Plans for so many students.
4. Follow-up/At Risk Students – Burgos
Burgos will analyze the new provisions that went into effect this fall quarter and compare them to last year to see how they are working. Some questions arose about how the probation numbers were being captured. A contact was given to Burgos so she can contact the person who captures the data directly. In preparation for the new SSSP requirements, the SARS codes were cleaned up last year to help capture clean data.
Burgos was also looking at the number of undecided students that we have. She is looking into what we are currently doing to see how effective it is. According to the current data, we have over 4000 undecided students. There might be an issue with the numbers though since the system might not be reading everyone’s information correctly. This will be looked into further.
5. Technology – Mandy
Some areas that were noted:
Orientation is still being worked on but we have DegreeWorks for the Ed Plans.
DSPS is working in ClockWorks.
CalWORKs uses EDD support.
Online Tutorials use SmartThinking.
Career exploration is still being looked into.
