Notes from the May 25th meeting were approved.

Updates

Governance Task Group has been developing an e-handbook about De Anza governance groups. Each governance group was asked to input information on a template to be used in the handbook. The document will be presented to College Council on June 9th for approval.

SSPBT - Request appointments from the Academic and Classified Senates of new members by the end of the quarter. College Council accepted the SSPBT recommendation to select the SSPBT co-chair. Everyone is encouraged to talk to faculty and staff about serving on the SSPBT, as an at large member (outside of Student Services). It was proposed that SSPBT members serve a two-year term.

Student Services Budget Reductions Proposal to College Council

The Student Services Budget Reduction proposal did not meet the amount requested. Student Services managers agreed to put their salaries on the list. The proposal included all the recommendations at the last SSPBT meeting. College Council members were stunned at the depth of the cuts to Student Services. The information provided showed the consequences of reductions and raised awareness of what Student Services provides. The President will present De Anza’s operating needs to the Board of Trustees on 6/6.

Joint Meeting with IPBT

On Tuesday, June 14th from 3:30 – 5 p.m. the SSPBT will meet with the IPBT. The purpose is to identify core services, what their approach is and how to move forward. Next step a meeting between, SSPBT, IPBT and FERC.

SSPBT reviewed IPBT Program Viability and Program Discontinuance, which SS needs to develop (state mandate).

Suggestion - Identify academic programs that students are in (from the application) to inform Instruction of the classes needed. Redefine every quarter; to make sure students update the information. Each division can access the data from Argos.

Include Core sequencing mix and scheduling need in the discussion with the IPBT (need data).

Cook/Espinosa-Pieb will work on the agenda for the Joint Meeting – One of the goals would be to help instruction understand the system that students have to go through to meet their goals. It is more than course sequence – how to get the students through the courses they need. Suggestion - Counseling 100 for faculty.

College Planning Committee – Newell requesting a classified person to serve on the Committee. If interested, let her know. College Planning Committee is a part of the Institutional Research and Planning office. CPC is an oversight committee that meets quarterly, eight members, will evaluate college-planning process.

Contact Newell if interested. Suggestion - develop working sub groups to discuss and make sure goals are being worked on during the summer.

Follow Up Discussion of Core Services

SSPBT reviewed updated draft of core Services for core students from the meeting on May 25th.

Suggestion made to limit high school students from enrolling in Math, English and Science classes.

Provide a calendar of events for 2012.

More meetings needed between the PBTs to clarify and understand what is needed.
