Approval of Notes -

The May 17, 2016 notes were approved.

Faculty Position for Academic Services -

Espinosa-Pieb gave a brief overview of the growth of (1) full-time English/Reading faculty position in the Learning Communities & Student Success and Retention Services programs and asked members for approval to let this position report to the Language Arts dean instead of Academic Services for the following reasons:

  • Tenure review committee for the position – has to consist of 2 discipline faculty experts i.e. English/Reading instructors
  • The position has to report to instructional dean (most of AS members are not instructional)
  • The new faculty member would not have a community of practice with AS as s/he would as a member of Language Arts.

Tomaneng confirmed that this position is not a general Language Arts position and will be focused on pathways programs as it is stated in Academic Services’ justification statement for 2016 - 2017. http://www.deanza.edu/gov/IPBT/facultyhiring.html

Per IPBT members’ request, the change has to be noted for 2017 – 2018 FY faculty hire process that Language Arts division were awarded 5 positions in 2016 – 2017 FY.

The IPBT accepted moving a full-time English/Reading faculty position from Academic Services to Language Arts, with the agreement of the English and Reading departments. The next step will be setting up a meeting with these two departments.
