I. Approval of Notes:
The notes for January 15th were approved with an enrollment clarification. The notes for the 22nd & 29th were also approved.
In response to a question as to why Javier Rueda hasn’t attended the last three meetings, Espinosa-Pieb asked Margaret Bdzil to follow up with ACE (Association of Classified Employees) and let them know the classified governance group is under represented.
II. Faculty Hiring (Results):
The handout, The Final Outcome for Faculty Ranking for 2013-2014, was distributed and examined. Espinosa-Pieb informed the members that 8 positions IPBT selected would be taken to the College Council. Once approved the hiring process can move forward.
Espinosa-Pieb distributed the original, confidential ranking sheets that the members ranked last week and asked them to compare numbers with the final outcome spreadsheet. In case of errors the members should let Espinosa-Pieb or Bryant know as soon as possible.
Espinosa-Pieb clarified the process of vote counting and clarified some particulars.
Espinosa-Pieb reminded the committee that originally the college had been given 10-13 faculty positions, but when the census date enrollment fell short the district decreased the number to 8-10. As of today, only 8 faculty positions are approved for hire. Espinosa-Pieb informed the members that when the FON (Faculty Obligation Number) comes from the State in May the district might increase the numbers to 9 or 10. If the FON changes or something prohibits finding a candidate for any of these 8 positions the deans would move down on Faculty Ranking Hire List for 2013-2014 FY. Espinosa-Pieb would work with the deans in this situation.
Espinosa-Pieb thanked the IPBT members for voting and will keep them informed of any changes.
Quick Updates:
Espinosa-Pieb shared that enrollment was down district wide. De Anza was 1.5 – 2 % down while Foothill was also down. Foothill was hoping to pick up some positive attendance.
As a result, FHDA has a $3 million structural deficit that the district is trying to address.
Espinosa-Pieb notified the IPBT members that last week De Anza’s managers met with individuals whose positions are scheduled for elimination. As of today all affected employees have been notified. These positions will be forwarded to the Board on March 11th. Once positions have been eliminated there will be ‘bumping’ sequences. Affected individuals would be given 10 days to decide if they want to retire at the end of this FY or exercise their bumping rights. Espinosa-Pieb reminded the members that it would affect a lot of people; not only those on the reduction list.
