De Anza's Orchestra and Choir will come together in a landmark performance to present two masterful works of contemporary music: Terry Riley's "In C" and Craig Hella Johnson's "Considering Matthew Shepard."
This concert will take the audience on an incredible journey:
- "In C" (Terry Riley): Experience the hypnotic, vibrant, and collaborative energy of a true masterpiece of minimalism. "In C" is a joyful and meditative work that redefined modern music, and this performance celebrates Terry Riley's 90th anniversary.
- "Considering Matthew Shepard" (Craig Hella Johnson): We then move to a profoundly moving modern oratorio. This three-part "fusion-oratorio" is a powerful and uplifting musical response to the tragic death of Matthew Shepard. Using a wide range of musical styles, it explores themes of loss, compassion, and our collective hope for a more understanding world.
This performance showcases the exceptional dedication and talent of our De Anza students. We are incredibly proud to bring this ambitious and moving program to our community.
