Guidelines

Here are some guidelines that you should follow when creating posters and flyers that advertise ON CAMPUS EVENTS.

First of all, anything that will be printed as a poster must be in a high enough resolution; at least 200 ppi or at least 200 dpi (at least 200 pixels per inch or 200 dots per inch depending on application).

While it is true that the A-Frames are 24" wide x 36" tall we do NOT recommend making your posters that size.

The recommended size for posters is 24" wide x 31" tall because that size conforms to the ratio for letter size paper (8.5" x 11"). The recommended size for flyers if 8.5" x 11".

Below is a list of various paper sizes and ratios. Note that our large format printer uses 24" wide rolls of paper. If you wish to post a large poster it must be in Portrait Mode, not Landscape Mode.

Here are a couple of PDFs to show what happens when you try to print a 24" x 36" poster as a full page or quarter page flyer.

You'll notice that it does not fill the page and you end up with noticeable white borders on the left and right edges.

So while you will lose a small amount of space with a 24" x 31" poster you will gain A LOT in terms of versatility.

Here are the various ratios for letter size paper:

8.5" x 11" (letter size flyer)
18.5" x 24" (small poster)
24" x 31" (large poster)
4.25" x 5.5" (quarter sheet size flyer)

If you would like to print a large poster make sure it is in Portrait Mode, not Landscape Mode. The A-Frames and Poster Printer are 24" wide and landscape posters will have to be printed as small posters in order to fit.

Please keep this in mind when creating your future posters and flyers in the future.

Also, while we are happy to print up to four posters and ten flyers for your events, we request that you email in your files for printing at least one week prior to your event. Flyers will be posted by the Office of College Life in the public display boards every Friday.

All relevant facility reservations must be made prior to any flyers or posters being printed.

For flyer printing email your files to the College Life front desk at CollegeLife@fhda.edu.

For poster printing email your files to Maritza Arreola, Leadership Development & Student Activities Coordinator, at ArreolaMaritza@fhda.edu, and Dennis Shannakian, Operations Specialist & Student Activities Coordinator, at ShannakianDennis@fhda.edu.
