Environmental Economics - HONORS

Course Description

This is an introduction to the basic principles of economics and their application to problems of environmental quality and natural resource utilization. Topics will include market failures, sustainable resource allocation, environmental degradation, pollution, and a rationale of government involvement in the market-based economy. Emphasis will be given to sustainability and the importance of including the environmental impact into the cost-benefit analysis of economic activities. Because this is an honors course students will be expected to complete extra assignments to gain deeper insight into environmental economics.

    De Anza will host its annual Enrollment Day event for graduating high school students and their families on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Main Quad and other locations.

    Sixteen faculty members were granted tenure by the Foothill-De Anza district Board of Trustees on Monday, during a special celebration attended by Chancellor Lee Lambert and leaders from the college and district. Colleagues, deans and family members were also there to congratulate them.

    Four members of the De Anza College community will be honored in March with Excellence Awards from the national League for Innovation in the Community College. They were selected for their outstanding service to the college and its students.

    De Anza has received its first-ever grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, providing $150,000 for an ambitious, three-year effort to create and expand oral history programs focused on historically marginalized communities.
