Makeup Assignments for Math/Science Tutors

For full class resources, discussions, and to submit homework assignments (other than makeup assignments) go to https://catalyst.deanza.edu .
If you must miss a class session, you must complete a makeup
assignment and email it BY THE MONDAY FOLLOWING CLASS to your
instructors,Tutor Support Team, and your senior tutor. Please read the
resources for the week in Catalyst and submit the appropriate assignment
by the deadline, and speak to a classmate, senior tutor or Tutor
Support person to learn about the class activity.
MAKE UP ASSIGNMENT for Class #1
- Read all handouts and all the Catalyst resources for class #1, including:

3. Write a one-page report summarizing what you learned and how you will apply these techniques during your
next tutoring session.

MAKE UP ASSIGNMENT for Class #2 (Tutoring Techniques)
- Read the Tutoring Techniques
handout, and make sure you understand (and try to apply) each of the
techniques. Also, please talk to one of the tutors who attended to hear
about the activity you missed

Read the Learning Styles Handout, then
- Watch all sections of the GRCC online tutor training module on learning styles, and take notes: http://web.grcc.edu/AssessmentCenter/LearningStyles_08/player.html .
- Go to http://maclife.mcmaster.ca/academicskills/online_resources.cfm
and scroll down to "From B's to A's" and click on "Learning Styles" and
watch the 5 minute video on learning styles. Write one paragraph about
what you learned from this video.
- Apply what you learned: choose one of the problems from the Class 3 Learning Styles activity sheet and describe how you would tutor a student using visual-nonverbal, tactile, auditory and tactile/kinesthetic techniques.

MAKE UP ASSIGNMENT for Class # 5 (Learning Differences and Disabilities):
Go to the Disabled Students Programs & Services website http://www.deanza.edu/dsps/dish/
and browse the Disability Information Student Handbook (DISH) for De
Anza Students. Sections 2 and 4 have the most practical
information--please explore these sections thoroughly.
- Option 1: After reading the DISH guide go to the Educational Diagnostic Center and interview one staff member about how things work there. Write one page describing what you learned.
- Option 2: After reading the guides go to the follow at least two of the web sites under Learning Disabilities in the Resources page on this site and explore the content. Write one page describing what you learned.
