Latina/Latino Student Recognition Ceremony and Scholarship 2014
Each year De Anza awards ADELA scholarship(s) (see how to apply below) based on fundraising efforts and hosts a recognition ceremony for all graduating and transfer students who wish to participate. Last year, we awarded four $1,000 scholarships and hope to increase the number of scholarships this year.

Latina/o Student Recognition Ceremony and Reception
Friday, June 20
6 - 9 p.m.
Visual and Performing Arts Center
STUDENTS: To participate in the ceremony as a graduate, meet with a counselor or academic advisor to confirm your transfer plans and complete the participation form for the Latina/o Recognition Ceremony, no later than June 4.
FACULTY, STAFF AND FRIENDS: Join in the celebration!.
A STUDENT SPEAKER for the 2014 LATINO/LATINA CEREMONY
We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational student speaker to address the community at the June 20 event.
Write one page describing your journey so far as a Latina/Latino college student, with the following focus:
- Discuss what your education has meant for you and your family and the importance of education for the Latino community.
- Also include a discussion of specific obstacle that you faced and overcame so far in your educational journey, and who or what helped you to overcome these obstacles.
Drop off a hard copy of your speech to Patricia Burgos by noon on Friday, June 6, in the SCS Building, Room 233. Please include your name, email and phone number on your submission.
The selection will be made on June 12. Note: Finalists will be required to deliver their speech to the selection committee on Wednesday, June 11, between 4 and 6 p.m. If selected, the committee will off support and guidance as you work on your speech and will hold at least one rehearsal prior to the day of the ceremony.

How to Apply for the ADELA Scholarship
Students are eligible to apply for the ADELA scholarship after applying for graduation and meeting with a counselor/advisor to verify transfer coursework and completion.
Go to the ADELA scholarship application page. The application deadline is Wednesday, June 4.
If you are faculty and staff, please inform students about both the ADELA scholarship and the recognition ceremony!
Support the ADELA Scholarship Fund
It's easy to give! Visit the FHDA Foundation website to download the Payroll Deduction Form. Just be sure to identify your contribution for the "Latina/Latino Recognition Fund." All contributions are tax deductible. Remember no amount is too small and is deeply appreciated.
