Students with Developmental Disabilities
Overview
In partnership with HOPE Services* since 1975,
De Anza works with under-served adults who have:

Intellectual disabilities characterized by significant limitations both in intellectual functioning and in adaptive behavior, which covers many everyday social and practical skills. (Includes student's diagnosed with mental retardation, Down's Syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, and/or related conditions)
HOPE Services is a (CARF) accredited agency which is considered the gold standard, the premiere accrediting body for rehabilitation programs. Facilities that are CARF-accredited must meet stringent international standards. CARF sees as its core values: ensuring that all people have the right to be treated with dignity and respect; that all people have access to needed services that achieve optimum outcomes; and that all people be empowered to exercise informed choice.
Employment preparation training takes place in
two off-campus HOPE work center locations.

To advance students towards their employment goals, De Anza Instruction focuses on skill development in the following areas:

- civic and personal responsibility
- physical wellness
The successful thirty-six year partnership between HOPE Services and De Anza College affords students with services that are greater than either could provide alone. De Anza College enrolled students at HOPE have access to other services afforded students with disabilities, such as
- registration assistance
- audio-visual resources
- a computer lab at each site
- specialized instruction
De Anza College staff collaborate with the HOPE supported employment department and plays an important role in preparing students for community based jobs.
