Postal Services

Mission: The Postal Services Department mission is to prepare and meter all outgoing classes of domestic and international mail, packages, and courier services for College departments; to insure that all departments are in compliance with all USPS regulations; to gain every possible discount for the college for all above services; to provide information about ongoing postal regulations; and to maintain all postal records and pay all permit fees. Postal Services must accomplish these tasks in a timely manner and in the most efficient method with minimum cost to the College.

Purpose:To provide every staff, faculty, and department with the ability to communicate and conduct business with each other and the world through prompt, reliable, secure, and economical services for the collection, transmission, and delivery of messages and merchandise.

General:The mailroom is located in the Administration Building. College Mailroom department receives about 3,000 pieces of mail and processed 2,000 pieces of mail outgoing per day. Department may also drop off mail until 3 p.m. Mail is delivered to most department offices. To expedite handling, internal (campus) mail should be using inter-office mail envelopes available specifically for this purpose. Campus mail includes courier service to and from the departments off campus facilities. The College has permits for first-class mail, third-class mail, and business reply mail. Contact the mailroom for additional information on the proper use of permits and the latest in postal regulations.

Delivery Schedule: Campus mail and incoming USPS mail take an average of 4 hours to reach its destination once it has been received by the Central Mailroom.

USPS Timelines: USPS mail leaves the Central Mailroom each day promptly at 3 p.m. Federal Express packages leave at 3 p.m. The Central Mailroom processes mail/packages accordingly to meet these deadlines. To ensure that your mail/packages go out the same day, mail/packages should be at the Central Mailroom at least an hour prior to the appropriate deadline.

Campus Mail Tip: To insure that your campus mail reaches its destination expeditiously, include the first and last name and department of the person it is being sent to. Also, be sure to keep campus mail separated from outgoing USPS mail to be metered.

Mailroom hours: Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information please call (408) 864-8920 or e-mail nguyenduc@fhda.edu.
