In this course, students will examine complex civilizations of the ancient world. They will learn about the rise and collapse of the ancient Harappan cities of the Indus Valley, the immense "lost city" of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, the cultures of ancient Mesopotamia, the rise and collapse of the ancient Maya cities of Mexico and Guatemala, the mystery of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and the near extinction of its people, the life and culture of ancient Egypt, and the rise and fall of Teotihuacán, the first city of the Western Hemisphere.
