Student Workshop: Understand the value and importance of service-learning for the academic success of First-Generation students.
Dr. José López Libertad attended San Jose State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration in Social Change and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with a concentration in Community Change. He also received a Master of Arts in Philosophy from San Jose State University where he fell in love with Latin American philosophy and thought. He earned his doctorate from the Ed.D Educational Leadership program at San Francisco State University where his research focused on "The Effects of Service-Learning on the Academic Success of First-Generation College Students." José has thirteen years of experience in student leadership, community building and teaching in higher education. He currently works as the Senior Program Coordinator at San Francisco State University's Institute for Civic and Community Engagement.
