Safety Trainings for Students, Faculty and Staff

Upcoming Events: Fall 2017

Oct. 17 and 18
Active Assailant Training: "Run, Hide, Defend"

This training is intended for students, faculty and staff. It is designed to show participants how to react and protect themselves during an "active shooter" or "active assailant" event.

"Run, Hide, Defend" is a training curriculum designed and approved by the Santa Clara County Police Chiefs Association and the Santa Clara County Office of Education, and sponsored by the state Homeland Security Grant Program. This curriculum is taught in all K-12 schools in Santa Clara County, along with San José State University and community colleges in the county.

Two sessions will be offered on campus by Foothill-De Anza District Police. Each session will cover the same material, so there is no need to attend both.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 17: 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Campus Center Conference Rooms A&B

  • Wednesday Oct. 18: 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Campus Center Conference Rooms A&B

Additional sessions will be held on the same dates at Foothill College from 1-2 p.m. and at the Foothill Sunnyvale Center from 5-6 p.m. De Anza students, faculty and staff may attend those sessions if the timing is more convenient. For details see the website of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District Police Department.

Earthquake Drill: "The Great California Shakeout"

More than 5 million Californians are expected to participate in the Great California Shakeout, a statewide earthquake preparedness exercise on Thursday, Oct. 19.

At 10:10 a.m. on Thursday, the Foothill-De Anza District Police  will issue an earthquake drill "alert" via the emergency text alert system. Any class or work area that wishes to participate may conduct a brief practice of the “Drop, Cover, Hold On” procedure and hold a short discussion about earthquake safety.

More information is available on the website of the Earthquake Country Alliance, including

Earthquake Country Alliance members include the U.S. Geological Survey, Governor's Office of Emergency Services, California Earthquake Authority and the California Department of Education.
