Community Scholars in Residence Program


Application for Fall Quarter September-December 2008

The Institute of Community and Civic Engagement (ICCE) promotes student self-empowerment and leadership in their communities through a variety of cultural and knowledge based activities.

The Community Scholars in Residence program brings community organizers and leaders to De Anza College as educators to provide public lectures, workshops and team-teaching opportunities for students and staff.

The ICCE is seeking community leaders who have experience working in any of the following thematic areas:
  • Youth/Student Leadership Development
  • Racial and Economic Justice
  • Women's Advocacy and Empowerment
  • Cultural Competency
  • Civic Leadership and Participation
  • Environmental Justice
  • Immigrant Rights & Advocacy
  • Workers Rights & Labor Organizing
  • Grassroots Organizing
  • Human Rights
  • Civil Liberties
  • Literacy & Education
  • Public Arts & Cultural Activism
  • Oral History/Community History


Commitment:
2 1-1/2 hours workshops for students, 1 campus-wide workshop or lecture for the broader De Anza community.

Stipend: $1500-$2000 to be negotiated with ICCE Director

Checklist for individual/group Applicants:
  • Cover Letter highlighting interest in the Community Scholar in Residence program and your qualifications for position
  • Provide a current Resume of relevant experience, including current contact information
  • Submit a 200-250 words description explaining how you will specifically work with students, faculty, and the broader campus community
  • Provide 2 letters of recommendation

Deadline for submission of materials: 5 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2008
